Triangle at Work – Open Invitation
We are currently open to new members. So sign up today and get the real stories on companies and jobs inside the triangle creative culture companies. You will notice most companies are game development or media firms. So if that is not your thing, stay tuned.
Work Triangle
Any one else tired of the cable ads for worktriangle.com? I mean the company bills itself as a local company but is 1) not based here, 2) fired 50% of its workforce and 3) was recently acquired. As an x-work metro employee said recently on Joel Cheesman’s blog:
“There was a layoff because since the beginning of the company, it was never profitable. It cost about $500,000 a month AT LEAST, to keep the company going. The company never made more than $300,000 in a month. VP of sales was never around (3 trips to Disneyland and a month in Europe in less than a year). Director of sales had so much things put on his plate, he couldn’t keep up. Upper management didn’t care much about the marketing or sales team (which both were filled with solid people). It was a recipe for disaster.”
New Search Firm / Website?
I took a brief look at Hireworth.com today. Looks like this Binghamton, NY based website is no longer in “stealth” mode. They are looking for a contract sales rep and a marketing officer and willing to pay a decent sized referral fee. Appearantly this startup is:
“the first North American job website to implement large-scale referral-based recruiting that makes use of web 2.0 social networking. Our ability to expand the hiring company’s referral recruitment model, to include our nationwide member network, will ensure that more passive candidates are viewing, and applying for their job openings.”
I will be looking to complete an interview with the CEO soon. The CEO is actually not listed on the “About” section yet.
Virtual Heroes snags serious talent.
Virtual Heroes adds Takayoshi Sato as Director of Visual Development.
“The company has put him to work on a new game project for the Department of Homeland Security. Takayoshi serves as the director of visual design for this project, and he’ll also work closely with members of the team of 34 on other serious games projects.”
Takayoshi is a game industry guru.
Ryan Allis
He attributes his success to a ‘rock star’ team and his elevator pitch for his firm icontact is …well..pretty tight.
More Incentives…NetApp
“State officials have approved at least $15.3 million in incentives for a California data-storage company if it meets a goal of creating 646 high-paying jobs at its Research Triangle Park campus.”
“The move would double Network Appliance’s work force in the Triangle, where it employs 633 workers, The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Tuesday. The new jobs would pay average annual salaries of more than $94,000.”

Trip Advisor & “Employer of Choice”
Tripadvisor. Love it. Tons of great content. User-generated. I used it to find out about the
hotel I am in tonight.
Imagine applying this model of ratings to employers AND recruiters in the Triangle.
No more “We are the Triangle’s Top Employer” because the Triangle Business Journal et al “says so..”
True. Practical ratings on staffing agency recruiters, corporate recruiters,
and companies.
Thoughts? Comments?
